YATRA Exotic Routes, the inbound division of Indian online agency Yatra.com, is aiming to double its passenger numbers from April 2010 to March 2011.
According to chief operating officer Gautam Kaul, the division, which was set up in late 2008, handled 6,500 passengers in its first year of operations.
“Europe has been our main market but the Far East has been doing very well. In the last two months, we handled 720 to 730 clients from Taiwan, China and Hong Kong. The emerging markets – the Far East and Russia – are giving us lots of scope to grow.”
While Yatra Exotic Routes operates as a separate entity, it feeds on synergies with its parent company, particularly on domestic airfares and room rates, as Yatra.com is one of the largest consolidators for airlines in India.
“We do not undercut but we offer good value for money. (Being part of Yatra.com) helps with pricing for domestic flights. We have contracts with 2,200 hotels and do a lot of domestic business for these properties even during the off-peak summer season. This gives us the price advantage,” said Kaul.
