INDIA is testing out a tourist visa-on-arrival (VOA) system for citizens of five countries for a year.
Nationals of Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, Finland and Luxembourg will receive a tourist VOA for single-entry trips for a maximum of 30 days when entering the country through airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
Arjun Sharma, managing director of Le Passage to India, said: "In spite of security constraints these days, (VOA) will ease access for people travelling to India and help increase leisure and business traffic. We wish to see the scheme extended to travellers of more countries."
The Ministry of Tourism had earlier requested for VOA for 18 countries.
Meanwhile, re-entry visa norms have also been eased. Tourist-visa holders who visit a second country and then return to India will be allowed two or three entries, provided they can produce a detailed itinerary and supporting documentation such as ticket bookings.
