HYATT International has soft-opened a 567-room property outside Hong Kong’s urban centre in Shatin, the second of three hotels the chain will have in Hong Kong by year-end. Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Shatin is located on the grounds of the Chinese University, which – along with the district’s large population – is expected to generate the bulk of the hotel’s rooms, meetings, banquet and f&b revenue. Nearly a third of its room count has been set aside for long-stay guests from the university, with rooms in studio, one- and two-room configurations for minimum stays of two weeks, according to general manager Mr Robert Hamer. There are also 45 executive club rooms in a property that makes use of over-sized picture windows and multiple terraces and balconies to bring the outside indoors and provide MICE organisers with outdoor venue options. “Between the Grand Hyatt (in Wanchai), our property and Hyatt Regency Kowloon (opening later in the year) we have three hotels from the same brand to provide MICE organisers with flexibility when it comes to venue choices. We can include our sister hotels when it comes to their programme,” said Mr Hamer. The university, which is building a larger, Cornell-affiliated hotel and tourism management school next door to the new property is also expected to provide a sizeable share of the meetings business for the hotel, while also serving as an additional resource to MICE groups with its auditorium and meeting rooms. Mr Hamer said the hotel will put together MICE packages, include boot-camp and team-building options, capitalising on the nearby countryside and Tolo Harbour as well as campus facilities such as its swimming pool, running tracks and gardens. Facilities at the hotel include a café with four show kitchens, Shatin 18 Chinese restaurant and Tin Tin Bar, which together with the Melo Spa, are due to open before the end of April. The hotel has more than 1,000 square metres of meetings and event space, with a pillarless Regency Ballroom and three Salon rooms, offering separate entrances and outdoor venue space. |
